Client Information to the subject "soap and BSE (bovine spongiforme encephalopathy)" We use in some of our soaps food grade tallow (tallow based soap noodles).
The tallow will be mixed with a 30% solution of caustic soda and heated 3 hours up to 95o.
A transfer of BSE germs by extern application of tallow based products is scientifically unknown.
The raw materials used by Kappus are under recent national and EU legislation unobjectionable: VO über kosmetische Mittel (Kosmetik-Verordnung) Stand 29. Änderungsverordnung vom 14.6.2000 BGBI I. S. 846 Anlage 1 (zu § 1).
For the raw material (Premier Jus) used by us we have certification from our suppliers that no risk bearing components (brain, spinal cord) are contained.
If you nevertheless intend to avoid any contact with possible BSE infected materials you should change to vegetable based products. Sodium Tallowate is substituted by Sodium Palmitate in a manifold selection of Kappus products, which are characterized as vegetable soaps.
For your information we print the EC directive governing BSE:
Twenty-second Commission Directive 98/16/EC of March 5, 1998 and Twenty-fourth Commission Directive 2000/6/EC of February 29, 2000 relating to cosmetic products (Amendment to Commission Directive 97/1/EC):

Transesterification or Hydrolysis at least: 200oC and an appropriate corresponding
pressure for 20 minutes (glycerine, fatty acids and esters)
Saponification with NaOH 12M (glycerol and soap):
